I have been wanting to read this book for these 6 months or so, and I finally read it.
I happened to find this book was on sale at kindle store, so I thought this was a good chance.
The only reason why I wanted to read this book was the author. Katherine Applegate has written Animorphs series, which used to be one of my favorites. Other than that, I knew nothing else about this book. 
It was a very different story from what I had expected.
It was not a perfectly happy ending, but still I liked it. 
To be honest, it was a hundred times better than "Curious George".
And some parts of the story was based on the true story, the author say.

アニモルフスの大ファンだったので、その作家がとったニューベリー賞作品ということで、
長らく読みたいと思っていた本でした。キンドルで安かったので衝動買い。
一部事実をもとにしたフィクションということで、深く心に残る作品でした。
動物の目線で物語が描かれているから易しく読みやすい。
ナショジオに取り上げられて火が付き、救済されたようです。
シルバーバックと言えば今は東山動物園のシャバーニが人気ですが、
動物園の動物たちのバックグラウンドを知ると、複雑な気持ちになります。

多読本紹介に5歳からとあったので読んでみましたが、結構知らない単語が多くて焦りました。でもひとつひとつの章が短いので読みやすかったです。読みはじめと読み終わりと,世界の色が変わって行くのがよくわかりました。ちょうどハムスターを飼いはじめたばかりで、いろいろ考えさせられました。
